Kyiv Mayor Urges Residents to Evacuate Amid Critical Energy Crisis.
Critical Situation in Kyiv
According to Novyny.live: Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has advised residents to consider leaving the city due to a severe crisis in the energy system. This call comes as approximately two thousand apartment buildings in the capital remained without heating on the morning of January 23. The outages are a direct result of Russian Federation attacks on January 9 and 20, which targeted critical infrastructure. Most of the affected buildings are located on the city's left bank, in the Pechersk district.
Call to Action and Preparations
Vitali Klitschko stated that the situation is extremely difficult and may worsen further. He urged citizens to stock up on food, water, and necessary medicines. The mayor emphasized that the capital, facing a dire energy situation and the threat of new enemy attacks on critical infrastructure, is preparing response plans for various possible scenarios. This crisis highlights the severe strain on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure from ongoing warfare.
Utility and energy workers managed to restore heating to over 650 more buildings overnight. However, across Ukraine, the energy grid is experiencing its most severe strain since the widespread blackout of November 2022. Vitali Klitschko announced that action plans and response algorithms for different situations will be discussed at a meeting with district heads.
This situation underscores the gravity of the challenges Ukraine faces during wartime and the bombardment of its critical infrastructure.

While city authorities are taking measures to respond to emergencies and ensure resident safety, the evacuation advisory signals a potential sharp escalation. Kyiv residents must prepare for prolonged heating outages and other energy-related issues in the near future.
