Why Ukraine Cannot Afford to Lose U.S. Backing

According to TSN.ua: Žygimantas Pavilionis, a Lithuanian diplomat and outspoken advocate for Ukraine, has called for intensified coordination with American lawmakers to bolster Ukraine's war effort against Russia. As the head of UNITED4UKRAINE and vice-chair of the Lithuanian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, he stressed that Washington's support remains indispensable for defeating the aggressor.

Pavilionis drew a stark historical comparison, likening Russian President Vladimir Putin's current maneuvers to those of Adolf Hitler during the 1942–1943 period. He argued that while Putin

“tries to intimidate and consolidate his forces, his economy is already crumbling.”
In his view, securing and maintaining U.S. backing is the decisive factor:
“If we keep the United States on our side—and we won't lose them despite Russia's efforts—then no one can defeat our forces.”

A Call for Unity Across Continents

Pavilionis also urged Ukrainian political leaders to more actively forge alliances with European partners.

“Be proactive, unite with Europeans, and together we will win this war,”
he declared. He underscored the critical role of international solidarity against aggression, recalling Winston Churchill's remark that Americans can be counted on to do the right thing—after they have exhausted every other option.

Looking ahead, Pavilionis expressed confidence not only in defeating Russia but also in securing NATO membership for Ukraine.

“I am certain that we will not only defeat the Russian Federation but also open NATO's doors for Ukraine,”
he concluded. His remarks highlight the centrality of global cooperation and sustained diplomatic effort in overcoming today's security challenges.

Pavilionis's statements reflect growing anxiety over regional security and the urgent need for a unified front against Russian aggression. By drawing historical parallels, he aims to shape the policy responses of allied nations. Lithuania's close collaboration with the United States and other European states could prove pivotal in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and advancing its Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
