According to ТСН: Astrophysicists warn of possible geomagnetic activity on the festive night. This activity was triggered by an M4-class solar flare and a coronal mass ejection recorded in the sunspot area AR4318 on December 28. According to forecasts, the debris from this explosion will reach Earth on December 31 or in the early hours of January 1, 2026.

Research centers provide slightly different forecasts regarding the start of the storm:

  • NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center expects the storm to begin on January 1.

  • Solen.info believes that the activity will start already on December 31.

However, there is no need to worry. Scientists assess the strength of the upcoming storm as G1 (the lowest level), which may cause only minor fluctuations in power grids and a weak impact on satellite operations.

Furthermore, during the holiday, an increase in solar wind is expected due to coronal hole CH1337, but even in combination, these factors are unlikely to lead to serious consequences.

For the residents of Ukraine, this storm will pass almost unnoticed. The aurora as a result of such a weak impact may only be observed within the Polar Circle.

It is worth reminding that on December 30, solar activity remains at a low level. A magnetic storm with a K-index of 3 (green level) is expected.

In light of this information, the residents of Ukraine can celebrate the New Year holidays calmly, as the expected geomagnetic activity poses no threat. It is important to remember that scientific forecasts help us stay informed about cosmic phenomena, but their impact on daily life remains negligible.
