4-year-old Oleksandra survived after being hit by a drone strike on her home: the story of rescue and treatment.
According to ТСН: A Russian drone struck a house in Sumy region while the family of 4-year-old Oleksandra was having dinner. The girl and her mother were pulled from the rubble, and the child was urgently taken to the intensive care unit of the regional hospital.
Treatment and Recovery
At the NDSCL “Okhmatdyt”, Oleksandra received treatment for multiple burns, which lasted for one and a half months. The girl underwent a complicated treatment process, as she was diagnosed with severe burns on her face, back, right arm, and shoulder.
“We were having dinner calmly, and suddenly — a loud explosion. After that, everything seemed like a fog: I remember being pulled from the rubble, and amidst the chaos, I was searching for my daughter,” recalls the mother of 4-year-old Oleksandra.
The treatment was organized by specialists, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and psychologists. The doctors explained that they first removed the damaged tissues and then used a special covering to protect the wounds.
“The treatment was done in stages. First, the surgeons removed the damaged tissues that were beyond recovery. To protect the wounds and prepare them for surgery, they temporarily used a special artificial covering. When healthy granulation tissues appeared and the wounds were ready for closure, the transplantation of split-thickness skin grafts from the thigh was performed to close the defects and ensure healing,” explains Valerii Bovkun, head of the reconstructive plastic micro-surgery department of Okhmatdyt.
Throughout the entire treatment period, the doctors constantly monitored the girl, who received professional care and pain relief. The stitches were removed after 10 days, and the doctors noted that the wounds healed without complications.
Psychological Support and Recovery through Creativity
After the attack, Oleksandra had sleep problems and often woke up. Therefore, a psychologist worked with her to help her cope with the trauma. Oleksandra also attended workshops on modeling and painting, which contributed to her emotional recovery.
After one and a half months of treatment, the girl was discharged home.
Recall that recently in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv, there was a direct strike from the enemy “Shahed” on a private house. These events emphasize the serious consequences of ongoing attacks that affect ordinary people. The safety of civilians remains a priority issue in these difficult times, and cases like this provoke deep reflections on humanity and human rights protection in war.
