Lutsk Mayor Steps Down Early: What Led to the Resignation.
Lutsk City Mayor Resigns
According to TSN.ua: Ihor Polishchuk, the mayor of Lutsk, stepped down from his position during the 90th session of the Lutsk City Council on March 25. The resignation was approved by council members, with 38 votes in favor of the decision. One deputy abstained from voting.
Following the resignation, Yuriy Bezpyatko, the secretary of the Lutsk City Council, will serve as acting mayor until the next local elections. Notably, Bezpyatko himself has also submitted a request for early termination of his own mandate.
Ihor Polishchuk's Statement
Ihor Polishchuk commented on his resignation, stating: 'This resignation is not connected to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), nor to any audit. No one has confiscated my phone, and I am unaware of any proceedings against me.'
Polishchuk's departure may signal political instability in Lutsk, as leadership changes at the local level often affect the implementation of projects and programs. Acting Mayor Yuriy Bezpyatko, who has already announced his intent to resign early, is expected to serve as a transitional figure until new elections, which are anticipated in the near future. This situation creates uncertainty in the city's politics and governance.
