Metinvest Commits 600 Million Hryvnias to Veteran Support, Focusing on Mariupol Defenders.
Metinvest's Commitment to Supporting War Veterans
According to TSN.ua: At the 'Heart of Azovstal. Growing Together' conference in Kyiv, Metinvest's Chief Operating Officer, Oleksandr Myronenko, detailed the company's extensive support programs for war veterans, particularly those who defended Mariupol. The company's owner, Rinat Akhmetov, has extended funding for these initiatives into 2025, allocating nearly 600 million hryvnias for this purpose. This brings the total aid provided over the last four years to a substantial 2.2 billion hryvnias. This sustained investment highlights the critical role of private industry in Ukraine's social recovery during a time of ongoing conflict.
Comprehensive Veteran Programs
Metinvest's support includes specialized educational programs. Over the past three years, 14 Mariupol defenders have enrolled at the company's Metinvest Polytechnic University, while 57 service members have completed English language courses. Furthermore, more than a thousand veterans are now employed across Metinvest's enterprises, demonstrating a successful integration of these individuals into the national workforce.
The company has also directed over 3.1 million hryvnias toward the physical and psychological recovery of 72 defenders through its 'Veteran Camping' program. Oleksandr Myronenko emphasized the importance of this ongoing support, stating:
"We welcome this decision, as a vast number of Mariupol's defenders remain in captivity. We will not stop until the last defender of the city returns home. It is a matter of honor for us to help heroes find their place in civilian life. We are strengthening veteran programs and creating new opportunities for education and professional development. We are convinced that veterans are the force that will help rebuild Ukrainian industry and the country after the war." - Oleksandr Myronenko
As part of its educational initiatives, Metinvest offers veterans access to:
- 19 bachelor's degree programs,
- 20 master's degree programs,
- 5 postgraduate programs.
This underscores the company's commitment to fostering veterans' professional growth. These efforts have gained international recognition, with Metinvest receiving two International Brilliance Awards in London for the high standard of its social programs.
Metinvest's initiative represents a significant step in aiding veterans who have witnessed and participated in combat. With the immense need for veteran rehabilitation and societal reintegration following military conflict, the company's work can profoundly impact individual lives and national recovery. By investing in education and career development, Metinvest demonstrates a commitment not only to veterans but to society at large, as Ukraine's post-war economic reconstruction will require a skilled and resilient workforce.
