The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine supported the decision to ban the use of the Russian language during school education.

This was stated by the Minister of Education Oksen Lisovyi during government questions.

The Minister noted that some changes were made to the document, but it did not affect the overall decision. He emphasized that it is necessary to ensure the equal development of the languages of the national communities of the European Union, but this does not apply to the Russian language.

"Regarding the draft law initiative of Ms. Nataliya Pipa, the Ministry of Education supported the draft law with certain remarks. This certainly does not concern the language of the aggressor country. We understand that language can be used as a weapon and a precondition for aggression," he said.

The Minister also noted that the Ministry of Education cares about the languages of the indigenous peoples, the languages of national communities, and in particular about the development of the Ukrainian language.

Draft Law on Ukrainian Language Environment in Schools

In the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, it is proposed to pass a draft law numbered 12086, which provides for the prohibition of teachers and students from speaking Russian during education and private communication on the territory of the educational institution. The initiator of the draft law is a member of the parliament, Secretary of the Committee on Education, Science, and Innovations Nataliya Pipa.
