Why Ukrainian Men with Deferments Still Must Undergo a Military Medical Commission.
Ukraine's Ongoing General Mobilization
According to TSN.ua: Under martial law, Ukraine's general mobilization applies to men aged 18 to 60 and women in certain professions. Even those who have officially secured a deferment are still legally required to appear before a Military Medical Commission (MMC). According to current regulations, an MMC decision remains valid for one year.
Ignoring a summons to the MMC carries a fine ranging from 17,000 to 25,500 hryvnias—a clear signal of how seriously the state views this obligation. As Dmytro Strychenko stated,
“even with a formal deferment in hand, military conscripts must still undergo a medical examination”. This rule underscores that a deferment does not exempt a person from the medical assessment process itself.
Updating Personal Data and Legal Duties
When changing their place of residence, conscripts must also update their records at the Territorial Recruitment Centers (TRCs). According to Yuriy Ayvazyan, moving does not allow anyone to skip a visit to the recruitment office. This requirement is part of a broader set of obligations that all military-aged individuals must follow.
Within the mobilization framework, it is equally important to understand the conditions under which fines are imposed on those who neglect their duties. Removal from the military registry is possible only under specific circumstances, and conscripts should be aware of potential reasons for denial.
In short, Ukraine’s general mobilization remains in full effect, and all military conscripts must comply with established rules to avoid legal and financial penalties.
Mobilization in Ukraine is a critical component of national security amid ongoing military aggression. Requirements such as undergoing medical checks and updating personal information are designed to keep mobilization efforts efficient. Following these rules not only helps individuals avoid fines but also supports the country's defense capacity during this crucial period.
