Forged Currency Found in Sumy Region After Drone Drop
According to TSN.ua: On April 2, forged banknotes were discovered in two districts of Ukraine’s Sumy region, reportedly dropped by Russian forces using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, stated that the fake bills feature hostile inscriptions, and their QR codes redirect to enemy-controlled online resources.
According to Hryhorov, Russian forces have been systematically deploying drones not only for attacks but also to release suspicious objects.
“This time, it’s an attempt at provocation,” he noted. The recovered items have been seized and sent for forensic examination.
Threat Posed by Russian Intelligence Services
This incident highlights the ongoing threat from Russian intelligence agencies, which are actively recruiting Ukrainians through popular messaging apps to legitimize Starlink terminals.
The discovery of counterfeit banknotes reveals new tactics employed by Russian forces to destabilize the situation in Ukraine. Using drones to drop dangerous items is part of the broader hybrid warfare strategy that has been ongoing since the conflict began. These actions may aim not only to disrupt the economy but also to exert psychological pressure on the civilian population.
