The Victim: A Life of Service

According to TSN.ua: Nataliia Rohozna, the manager of the Ukrposhta office in Orikhiv, lost her life after a hostile drone attack. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, she could not be saved. For over a year and a half, Rohozna and her team served as a vital communication link for more than 800 local residents, making her a key figure in the community. In 2024, she received an honorary award from Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense for her contributions to national defense.

Deadly Strike at Her Own Home

On February 18, Ukrposhta was closing its Orikhiv branch due to escalating security threats. Tragically, it was at this time that Rohozna was caught in an attack. A hostile drone struck her home, burning it to the ground.

“That is where the enemy drone attacked Ms. Nataliia, right in her own yard. Her house burned down. She was pulled from the rubble, and doctors fought for her life for four days, but she died in the hospital.” - Ihor Smilianskyi

She leaves behind a daughter, Karolina, who lost her mother in this heartbreaking moment.

A Dark Weekend for Ukrposhta

Rohozna’s death was not the only tragedy to strike Ukrposhta during that period. In the Sumy region, a branch was completely destroyed by a direct hit. In Nikopol district, drones obliterated a mobile post office, and in Brovary, Kyiv region, a branch was damaged by shelling. On February 3, two young people were killed in a strike in Zaporizhzhia. This series of attacks underscores the grave dangers faced by Ukrposhta employees and local residents in wartime conditions.

These events highlight not only the specific risks to postal workers but also the broader security challenges confronting civilians across Ukraine during the war. As attacks continue, the country’s infrastructure—including its postal services—suffers severe damage, complicating communication and access to essential services. The death of Nataliia Rohozna, like so many other cases, illustrates the heavy price Ukrainians are paying for their freedom and security in these difficult times.
