Fire was opened on drones over the base of French nuclear submarines.
According to ТСН: The French armed forces reported a serious security breach at a strategic site in the Finistère region. Marines guarding the Île-Long naval base opened fire on drones that illegally entered the airspace over the area where nuclear submarines are located.
Five drones and gunfire
The incident occurred on Thursday evening, around 7:30 PM. During a patrol of the area, five drones were detected over the base located in the Bay of Brest. This base is home to French ballistic missile submarines that play a key role in the country's nuclear deterrence.
The security promptly reacted to the threat. A drone countermeasure system was activated, and a battalion of marine fusiliers fired several shots at the hostile targets.
“Sensitive infrastructure was not threatened.”
Goal - intimidation
The Atlantic Maritime Prefecture has initiated an investigation. Currently, the origin of the drones has not been established, and the prosecution is refraining from commenting. However, the military believes that the purpose of this incident may have been psychological intimidation.
“The goal was to unsettle the population.”
It is worth noting that visibility that evening was perfect due to the full moon.
Such incidents have recently become more common, especially in Northern Europe, where there have been increasing reports of drones flying over airports and military sites. European leaders often see this as the “hand of Moscow.”
It should also be noted that on the same day, unidentified drones attempted to attack an aircraft carrying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was on his way to Ireland. The drones were reportedly spotted by observers from an Irish naval vessel.
The situation with drones around strategic sites is causing increasing concern. Military experts note that drone activity indicates an escalation of tensions in the region that requires heightened attention from European countries. Recent incidents highlight the need for effective measures to ensure the security of critical infrastructures.
