The Russian Federation Army will not be able to capture Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region either by October 1, as ordered by President Vladimir Putin, or later. However, the occupiers are trying to enter the city. This was stated by the former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, Mykola Malomuzh, in the Freedom TV channel program.

According to Malomuzh, the Pokrovsk direction is the most important for the Kremlin, and the main task is to capture Pokrovsk. The Russian command is pulling new reserves to this direction to "break through at least individual directions".

However, Malomuzh notes, the Russians do not invent anything new in tactics: they are trying to encircle the city from the flanks and start an assault with massive strikes on Pokrovsk. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are countering by building fortified positions and creating "traps".

"If we talk about the prospects of capturing Pokrovsk, I think there are no such prospects in the near future. We will maneuver, fend off flanking attacks and counterattack where they advance. I believe the situation is under control. It is difficult, but the enemy does not have the potential for large-scale offensive operations," the expert emphasized.

The number of enemy troops in the Pokrovsk direction exceeds Ukrainian defenders several times, as do the means of fire. However, Ukraine is increasing its capabilities in the field of artillery and missiles and has more accurate weapons for Ukrainian units.

"Our unconventional actions in defense and counterattacks lead to the fact that the enemy's advance is not only delayed, but we are also counterattacking. We have already conducted several counter-offensive operations, including near Pokrovsk and in New York. Although they continue their attempts to advance, I think they will not be able to capture Pokrovsk by October 1 or later. The reserves being prepared on our side will allow us to carry out counterstrikes," said Mykola Malomuzh.

Recall that Ukraine began an offensive against Russia through weak border points. This allowed for quickly taking control of a larger territory than Russia captured in nearly a year of its advance in eastern Ukraine. This is reported by The New York Times.

According to The New York Times, the Russian troops' advance on Pokrovsk halted at one section of the front line. However, the Russians continue their advance in the southern direction.
