According to ТСН: In Lithuania, during joint NATO military exercises, a serious incident occurred in which a Belgian serviceman was injured. The event took place during combat shooting drills.

Circumstances of the tragedy and the soldier's condition

The accident happened at the training ground in Pabrade. While practicing mortar firing, one of the soldiers sustained severe injuries. He was promptly given first aid on the spot.

The injured soldier was quickly transported to a medical facility in Vilnius, where doctors diagnosed him with multiple injuries. His condition is currently assessed as critical. The Belgian command has already informed the soldier's relatives about the incident, and Lithuanian medics continue to fight for his life.

Reaction of the authorities and allies

The Lithuanian leadership quickly responded to the event, expressing support for the injured soldier's family. The government assured that the victim is receiving all necessary assistance at the highest level, and the relevant agencies are closely cooperating with their Belgian counterparts.

prime minister of Lithuania, Ingrida Simonyte, emphasized the sacrifice that allies show in protecting the region's collective security.

“Such moments remind us of the immense responsibility and risk that our allies take on every day in defending our collective security”

It is worth noting that the Belgian military has been participating in missions in Lithuania since 2017 as part of a multinational NATO combat group, which ensures the security of the Alliance's eastern flank.

At the same time, in Bavaria, police accidentally shot a soldier during large-scale Bundeswehr exercises, which occurred during crossfire between the police and military and could also have tragic consequences.

This incident highlights the risks faced by servicemen during joint exercises. Such cases demonstrate not only the dangers but also the importance of ensuring safety during military drills conducted within the framework of international cooperation. Lithuania's response and support from allies reflect solidarity in times of crisis.
