Patriotic Slogan Appears on Updated 200-Hryvnia Banknotes Released by Ukraine's Central Bank.
Ukraine's Banknote Refresh Program
According to TSN.ua: Starting February 25, the National Bank of Ukraine put into circulation redesigned 200-hryvnia notes featuring a patriotic inscription. This move is part of a broader initiative to overhaul the national currency amid a wave of patriotic changes sweeping the country.
These updated 200-hryvnia bills are legal tender across all of Ukraine, as confirmed by the central bank. It is worth noting that the patriotic phrase "Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Heroes!" first appeared on 500- and 1,000-hryvnia notes on August 8, 2024. Consequently, the new currency helps reinforce national identity and patriotic sentiment among Ukrainians.
Currency Design Updates Continue
Additionally, the same slogan was added to 50-hryvnia notes on August 23, 2024, and appeared on 20-hryvnia banknotes in August 2025. This reflects a systematic approach to revamping Ukraine's currency design, incorporating elements that highlight national values and history.
As of March 2026, first- and second-generation notes issued before 2003 have lost their status as legal tender. Older denominations—1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 hryvnia from various years—have been withdrawn from circulation. This underscores the importance of transitioning to modern banknotes that meet current standards and offer greater convenience for the public.
Ukraine's ongoing currency refresh represents a key step toward modernizing the financial system and boosting confidence in the national currency.
The process of updating banknotes in Ukraine not only demonstrates a desire to adapt the currency to contemporary realities but also highlights national patriotism in the context of historical events.
Introducing banknotes with patriotic inscriptions could serve as a symbol of unity and support for national values among the population, especially given the challenges facing the country. It may also influence how both Ukrainians and international partners perceive the hryvnia as a stable and reliable currency.
