UAE Calls for Action Against Iran

According to TSN.ua: The United Arab Emirates is urging the United States to take decisive steps in response to the threat posed by Iranian forces. If necessary, the Emirates are prepared to enter a direct war with Iran to secure the Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for global maritime shipping.

The UAE aims to remove Iranian forces from the Strait of Hormuz, as regional allies like Saudi Arabia and others also support continued confrontation with Iran. Against the backdrop of escalating tensions, Bahrain has proposed a United Nations resolution, with a vote expected on April 2. On March 31, 2023, Iran launched approximately 50 ballistic and cruise missiles, along with drones, against the UAE, further highlighting the heightened volatility in the area.

UAE Military Capabilities and Iran's Response

Iran has warned that it is prepared to destroy critical civilian infrastructure in Gulf states that back operations against it. The UAE operates military bases, the deepwater port of Jebel Ali, and possesses military assets including F-16 fighter jets, reconnaissance drones, and stockpiles of American bombs and missiles. These resources give it considerable military strength in any potential conflict scenario.

Elizabeth Dent noted that the UAE might enter such a war only to face a more aggressive Iran.

However, other analysts, such as Adam Smith, have expressed doubts about the Emirates' ability to successfully carry out such operations, stating:

'I do not think we can do this.'

Amid growing threats and political strain, the UAE clearly sees it as necessary to take action to protect its national interests and ensure regional security.

The intensifying conflict between the UAE and Iran underscores the complex geopolitical landscape in the Persian Gulf. The Strait of Hormuz serves as a vital oil transit route, making it a strategic asset for numerous countries. The UAE's stance and its efforts to rally the international community, particularly the United States, suggest an intent to safeguard not only its own security but also stability across the entire region.
