Ukraine Implements Nationwide Power Rationing Schedules Starting January 26.
Power Rationing Begins January 26
According to TSN.ua: In response to severe damage inflicted on its energy infrastructure by Russian missile and drone attacks, Ukraine will implement nationwide electricity consumption restrictions starting January 26, 2023. This critical measure is necessary due to the extensive destruction of the country's power grid.
New Power Rationing Schedules
Households will be subject to hourly power outage schedules (HPOS) to regulate residential electricity use. Meanwhile, industrial consumers will operate under power limitation schedules (PLS). These measures follow a major Russian assault on the night of January 23-24, which left over 800,000 consumers in Kyiv without power. The country's energy system is currently operating with a significant power generation deficit, highlighting the severity of the crisis and the urgent need for stabilization measures.
"The implementation of electricity consumption restrictions is a direct response to the critical situation in Ukraine's energy sector, which has been caused by the ongoing war."
The new schedules are designed to ensure more rational use of remaining energy resources and prevent a total collapse of the national grid. These wartime measures, common in nations under attack on critical infrastructure, will impact daily life and business operations, making public adherence essential for maintaining systemic stability during this crisis.
