Russian Shelling Forces Changes to Ukrainian Commuter Rail Schedules.
Alterations to Ukrainian Commuter Rail Services
According to TSN.ua: Due to Russian Federation shelling, the schedules for several Ukrainian commuter train lines were temporarily altered on March 5, 2023. These disruptions are part of a wider pattern of attacks on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure since the full-scale invasion began. As a result, some services will operate on shortened routes, and one train has been canceled entirely.
According to the updated timetable, train #6015, which runs between Dnipro-Holovnyi and Verkhnodniprovsk, will now terminate at Verkhnodniprovsk. Similarly, train #6018, traveling from Verkhnodniprovsk to Dnipro-Holovnyi, will also run a shortened route. Furthermore, train #6008, which operated from Pyatikhatki to Dnipro-Holovnyi, has been temporarily suspended.
Additionally, train #6010, connecting Verkhnodniprovsk and Dnipro-Holovnyi, departed with a delay of 1 hour and 5 minutes. These schedule changes follow recent attacks on railway infrastructure. Specifically, on March 4, a Russian 'Shahed' drone struck a passenger train in Mykolaiv. On March 2, Russian forces hit a passenger train in the Kryvyi Rih district of Dnipropetrovsk region, resulting in one fatality.
Impact of Shelling on Railway Connectivity
Consequently, Russian shelling continues to adversely affect railway operations in Ukraine, compelling carriers to implement frequent adjustments to train schedules.
This situation reflects the ongoing military conflict and its direct impact on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.
Schedule alterations can significantly impact population mobility, which is critically important during wartime when many people require safe transit routes. Given the increasing number of attacks on rail transport, ensuring passenger safety has become a top priority for carriers and the state.
