Vucic accidentally revealed negotiations with Moscow: what the microphones heard in Brussels.
According to ТСН: During his visit to Brussels, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic accidentally admitted that he might play the role of a mediator between the Kremlin and the European Union.
This happened during a joint photo session with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and President of the EU Council Antonio Costa. The Serbian leader, not realizing that the microphones were already on, said:
“I received a message from Moscow”.
Von der Leyen immediately interrupted him, whispering:
“Let’s… let’s wait”.
It is not entirely clear what specific “message from Moscow” was being referred to. It is known that Vucic is one of the few European leaders who maintain contact with the Kremlin, as the EU severed diplomatic relations with Moscow following its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
This statement came against the backdrop of multilateral negotiations aimed at stopping the Russian invasion and strengthening support for Ukraine, which are ongoing these days.
Additionally, Vucic recently made an unexpected remark that Europe, including his country, is preparing for a possible war with Russia, as such a prospect
“is becoming increasingly apparent”.
Thus, Vucic's comments underscore his unique position in European politics, as he remains one of the few leaders who seek dialogue with Moscow amid rising tensions on the continent. This incident raises new questions about an already complex situation in the region, where stabilization efforts often clash with the realities of war.
