More Jobs and Higher Pay for Ukrainians with Disabilities

According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's labor market is becoming more inclusive, as the number of job postings for people with disabilities and their corresponding wages have both risen over the past year. In May 2026, there were 13,135 vacancies for individuals with disabilities—a 17% increase compared to May 2025, when 11,225 such positions were recorded. This upward trend reflects a growing effort to create employment opportunities for this demographic.

By May 2023, the average salary for workers with disabilities had climbed to 26,400 hryvnias, marking a 26% year-over-year rise. Among the highest earners are plasterers, who take home 80,000 hryvnias—23% above the market average. In the cultural sector, the average wage in June 2023 stood at 28,000 hryvnias, though the number of available jobs in that field dropped by 28%.

How Wages Differ Across Professions

The job market also reveals significant pay gaps between occupations. For example:

  • Facade workers earn 75,000 hryvnias, which is 32% higher than the market rate;
  • Bricklayers receive 73,300 hryvnias, 27% above the standard rate;
  • Long-haul truck drivers make 60,000 hryvnias, just 2% above the market figure;
  • Dentists show a substantial increase, earning 60,000 hryvnias—85% above the average salary in their field.

Other professions also offer competitive wages. Straighteners earn 56,300 hryvnias, installers get 50,000 hryvnias, and auto painters receive 50,000 hryvnias—32% more than the average. Painters and auto electricians similarly earn 50,000 hryvnias, which is 39% and 18% above market rates, respectively.

These figures point to positive developments in employment for people with disabilities, along with growing opportunities for fair compensation across various trades. The rise in both job postings and salaries represents an important step toward greater inclusivity in Ukraine’s labor market.

The increase in vacancies and average wages for people with disabilities signals progress in creating equal opportunities at work. This trend can improve social integration and shift public perceptions of their role in the workforce. At the same time, the pay differences between professions highlight the need for ongoing monitoring and regulation to ensure fair working conditions for all employees.
