Pensioners in Occupied Territories Face Loss of Payments: Steps Required to Keep Benefits.
Identity Verification for Pensioners in Temporarily Occupied Areas
According to TSN.ua: Elderly residents living in Ukraine's temporarily occupied territories must complete an identity verification process or risk having their pension payments suspended. This requirement is essential for continued state financial support, as failure to verify their identity is grounds for a temporary halt in pension disbursements.
Pensions are paid only on the condition that recipients are not simultaneously receiving such payments from Russia. The Main Directorate of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in Donetsk Region has stated:
“Pensioners residing in temporarily occupied territories will receive their allocated pensions only if they undergo in-person identity verification.”
How the Verification Process Works
What steps are involved? Verification can be completed using the Diia.Signature system or via a video conference call. Applicants must present a passport or another official identification document. This procedure is designed to confirm the pensioner's identity and ensure uninterrupted payments.
For pensioners living in temporarily occupied areas, completing this verification is critical to avoid the risk of having their pension benefits paused.
This requirement is part of the Ukrainian government's broader efforts to monitor pension disbursements amid ongoing military conflict and the occupation of certain regions. The verification process aims not only to guarantee financial assistance but also to prevent potential abuse by individuals who might collect pensions from multiple sources. In a time of instability and challenges stemming from the conflict, it is vital that pensioners are informed of their rights and responsibilities, as well as the available methods for identity verification, ensuring they can access the financial resources they need.
