Kyiv's Power Supply Unlikely to Improve for at Least 10 Days, Says Yasno CEO.
Kyiv's Electricity Supply Situation
According to TSN.ua: Serhiy Kovalenko, CEO of the Yasno energy company, has stated that significant improvements to Kyiv's electricity supply are not expected in the immediate future, until the current severe frost subsides. He urged Kyiv residents to persevere, as temperatures in the capital are currently -17 degrees Celsius, and the freezing weather is forecast to continue for approximately another 10 days. This prolonged cold wave severely hampers repair crews working to restore power infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks.
Kovalenko noted that with such low temperatures, it is difficult to hope for substantial progress.
"If we're talking about weeks, I'm not sure we can expect any significant improvements," he emphasized. He added, however, that the extreme cold cannot last indefinitely: 'On the other hand, it's -17 now. But we understand that the frost cannot hold for 2 months.'
Difficult Conditions for Kyiv Residents
He further described the current situation as extremely challenging, stating that
"the word 'improvement' sounds inappropriate under the present conditions."Kovalenko stressed the hardships faced by Kyiv's citizens, who on average have only 3 hours of electricity followed by 10 hours without power, calling the situation 'terrible conditions'. In response to these ongoing difficulties, a special headquarters has been established to coordinate the elimination of the consequences of Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure.
The electricity supply situation in Kyiv remains critical, exacerbated by the severe frosts which complicate restoration efforts. The creation of a dedicated response headquarters underscores the seriousness of the problem facing the city. It is clear that any meaningful improvement in power supply is only possible after the cold spell breaks, presenting residents with immense additional challenges in their daily lives.
