Political scandal in Germany: Scholz accused opposition politician of disinformation.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz criticized Roderich Kiesewetter over a possible meeting with Putin
Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany, sharply criticized Roderich Kiesewetter's statements from the CDU party regarding a possible meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was reported by Spiegel magazine.
The conflict arose after Kiesewetter published a message on social media X, indicating that 'there are signs' of a possible trip for Scholz to Moscow or a meeting with Putin before February 23.
'This is an absolutely false statement,' said Scholz during an event at the SPD headquarters in Berlin, the Willy Brandt building. 'Such a thing cannot be done. It is very wrong,' the chancellor added while responding to journalists' questions about Kiesewetter's statements during the presentation of his party's positions on economic growth and industrial policy.
The chancellor emphasized the complete groundlessness of Kiesewetter's claims: 'There is no evidence that anyone has even thought about this.'
He also added that 'honest people have the right to be outraged.'
The strongest outrage was expressed by members of the chancellor's own party. In particular, SPD Secretary-General Matthias Miers characterized Kiesewetter's statements as 'very problematic, shameful, and crafty' and called on the CDU politician to apologize.
Earlier, Scholz accused Musk of undermining democracy: 'Don't feed the troll.'
