Kyiv's Situation Following Russian Attack

According to TSN.ua: More than 100 high-rise buildings in Kyiv are without heating, with temperatures now below -10°C, following a Russian attack. The overnight assault on January 20th left half of Kyiv without heating, and currently 5,635 apartment blocks remain without a heat supply. This has forced residents to wait in long lines for hot meals, as they are unable to cook food in their own homes. This latest strike compounds the severe damage to Ukraine's energy infrastructure from months of targeted attacks.

"We live in an apartment building, and there's no electricity. Without power, the stoves don't work and there's no heating either."

The freezing weather complicates the situation, pushing people to find alternatives for securing hot food. Kateryna Prokopenko, a mother, explained: "The children go to kindergarten - thankfully, they are fed there. But on weekends - here we are."

According to Yuliia Vysytska, a representative of a food aid organization, "We are providing thousands of meals across Kyiv. Every day we try to do more and more." Despite the difficulties, about 80% of buildings that had heat restored after the strikes on January 9th remain connected. However, a significant number of residents are still without heating, causing widespread public concern.

Humanitarian Crisis in Ukraine

This incident highlights the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, which is being severely exacerbated by both military action and the harsh winter. The lack of heat and electricity in multi-story buildings creates immense hardship for residents, especially for children and the elderly. State and charitable organizations are attempting to provide aid, but the needs remain vast.

Amidst the freezing conditions, support and adequate resources for the population suffering from the conflict's consequences are critically important.
