Anastasiia Prykhodko’s Take on Ukraine’s Music Scene

According to TSN.ua: Anastasiia Prykhodko has spoken out about Dmytro Monatik’s work and the broader trends shaping Ukraine’s music industry during wartime. The singer took a critical view of artists who previously performed in Russia and have now suddenly switched their songs from Russian to Ukrainian, calling such moves confusing and opportunistic.

Prykhodko specifically called out Dmytro Monatik—widely known as MONATIK—for his wartime actions. She argued that performers who once sang in Russian are now gripped by a fear of being left out. In her commentary, the singer emphasized:

“I never understood his approach. He traveled to Moscow, was everywhere there, and now he’s abruptly translated all his songs into Ukrainian—something I personally don’t do. Dima, what’s this fear all about? It’s the fear of a public figure being left behind. With all the incredible musical talent Dima has, he’s afraid he won’t write anything better in Ukrainian.”

Prykhodko also expressed respect for Andriy Khlyvnyuk of the band 'Boombox' and Sviatoslav Vakarchuk. Through her remarks, she underscored the importance of honesty and consistency in the work of Ukrainian artists during these challenging times for the country.

How War Is Reshaping Ukraine’s Music Industry

Prykhodko’s comments highlight a broader debate about identity and cultural shifts in Ukraine’s music industry, especially amid the ongoing war. Artists who once thrived on the Russian market now face pressure to rethink their creative approaches and public stances, which can impact their popularity and acceptance among Ukrainian audiences in this new reality.
