Russian nuclear bombers Tu-95MS conducted a long flight near NATO borders.
According to ТСН: On Wednesday, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported a long flight of strategic nuclear bombers Tu-95MS over neutral waters of the Barents and Norwegian Seas.
According to official data, the flight lasted more than seven hours. The bombers, as part of Russia's nuclear arsenal, were accompanied by Su-33 fighters. The route passed near the northern territories of the United Kingdom and Norway.
In response to the approaching Russian aviation, NATO countries scrambled their fighters to monitor and escort the Russian aircraft. Moscow's statement indicated that at certain stages of the route, the bombers were accompanied by "fighters of foreign states," but specific countries were not mentioned.
About Tu-95MS Aircraft
The Tu-95 aircraft, classified by NATO as Bear, are strategic bombers with turboprop engines, developed back in the 1950s. Although the aircraft are quite old, they are still actively used for both nuclear and conventional combat missions.
Experts note that conducting such maneuvers at Christmas is a conscious gesture of displaying power towards the United Kingdom and the northern flank of the Alliance. In particular, Tu-95MS aircraft are regularly used by Russia for mass attacks on Ukraine. In early December, they participated in one of the largest attacks, during which more than 650 drones and about 50 missiles were involved. At that time, Poland scrambled its aviation and activated air defense forces due to the threat of airspace violation.
The attacks caused significant damage to Ukraine's energy system.
NATO command continues to monitor the activity of Russian strategic aviation near the borders of Alliance countries.
It is worth recalling that in 2001, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed the opinion that Ukraine's accession to NATO would lead to a long-term confrontation between Moscow and Washington.
In recent days, the Russian side has shown unwillingness for peace and continues to insist on demands that contradict the peace initiatives of Ukraine and the West. The USA emphasizes that the responsibility for further actions currently lies entirely with the Kremlin.
