Kyiv Hit by Russian Attack: Heating Lost for 5,635 Apartment Blocks, Water Supply Fails on Left Bank.
January 20th Strike on Kyiv
According to TSN.ua: Russian forces struck Kyiv on January 20, causing major damage to the city's infrastructure. The attack left 5,635 multi-story apartment buildings without heating. It is notable that 80% of these buildings had only just had their heating restored following a previous large-scale assault on January 9.
Left Bank Water Crisis
Water supply was cut off in several districts on the city's Left Bank, including Desnianskyi, Darnytskyi, and Dniprovskyi. In the Troieshchyna residential area, water is available only at low pressure. The strikes also triggered fires and heavy smog. One resident was wounded during the bombardment.
In response to these conditions, city officials are advising residents to:
- Keep windows closed;
- Limit time spent outdoors;
- Drink plenty of water;
- Use air purifiers if available.
This assault is part of the ongoing war, now in its second year, which continues to inflict severe hardship on civilians. The targeting of critical infrastructure like heating and water systems creates immediate humanitarian crises, threatening the health and safety of Kyiv's residents and demanding urgent response from authorities and the international community. These attacks on urban centers represent a brutal pattern in the conflict.
