Russia Launches Major Air Assault Across Ukraine on February 17
According to TSN.ua: On February 17, 2023, Russia launched a widespread air assault against Ukraine, beginning overnight and continuing into the morning. Air defense systems were activated in the Lviv district due to the threat from an incoming Russian drone. This attack is part of a prolonged campaign of air strikes targeting Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, which has intensified in recent months.
The attacks resulted in explosions being recorded in several regions. In Dnipro and its surrounding oblast, administrative buildings, businesses, residential properties, and vehicles were damaged, and fires broke out, though no casualties were reported there. In Odesa, three people were injured by strikes. In Burstyn, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast, explosions disrupted central heating and water supplies. Explosions were also recorded in the Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Poltava, and Lviv regions.
Lviv Regional Governor Maksym Kozytskyi confirmed that air defense was active in the Lviv district. Separately, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi urged residents to stay in shelters and not to ignore air raid sirens, stating:
"A hostile drone is approaching Lviv" - Andriy Sadovyi
The situation remains tense, with authorities continuing to implement measures to ensure public safety.
