Senior Russian officials, including Dmitry Medvedev and Sergey Lavrov, suggested that Trump desires to be remembered historically as a peacemaker. The discussions also covered current issues related to the ongoing situation in Ukraine.

Commenting on the talks, Dmitry Medvedev reiterated that Trump aims to secure a legacy as a peacemaker. He also admitted that Russia has yet to identify effective solutions to the conflict, stating:
