Kharkiv Residential Building Targeted in Attack

According to UATV: On February 3, Russian forces struck a multi-story residential building in Kharkiv's Saltivka district using a 'Shahed' drone. The attack triggered a fire that injured seven people. The assault occurred at 6 a.m. amid bitterly cold outdoor temperatures of -20°C (-4°F). This attack is part of a wider pattern of strikes on Ukrainian cities that has intensified during the winter months.

Weaponry Deployed in the Assault

Information indicates a wide array of weaponry was used in the broader attack campaign, including:

  • 4 'Zircon'/'Onyx' missiles
  • 32 'Iskander-M'/S-300 ballistic missiles
  • 7 Kh-22/Kh-32 cruise missiles
  • 28 Kh-101/'Iskander-K' cruise missiles
  • 450 attack unmanned aerial vehicles

These strikes have inflicted significant damage to infrastructure and resulted in civilian casualties.

Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, stated that following the fire's extinguishment, utility services and volunteers would be mobilized to seal window openings in surviving apartments to retain heat, given the critical weather conditions.

'This tragedy is further evidence of the scale of destruction brought by the war and underscores the importance of supporting the victims.' Oleh Syniehubov

The strike on the Kharkiv apartment building illustrates the continuation of hostilities in Ukraine, which lead to significant civilian casualties and infrastructure damage. Amid winter frosts, such incidents severely compound the hardships faced by survivors, highlighting the critical need for humanitarian aid and support from the state and society.
