Police seized a rifle after the dog was killed in Chernihiv region: investigation details.

According to ТСН: In the Chernihiv region, law enforcement is investigating a case of cruelty to animals. A local resident reported that her neighbor shot her dog with a hunting rifle.

According to the victim, after the shot, the man placed the dog's body in the trunk of his car and disappeared in an unknown direction. An investigative group urgently arrived at the scene.

Searches and investigations

During the search of the suspect's household and car, law enforcement seized a hunting rifle, ammunition, gunpowder, cartridges, as well as blood samples from the trunk. A canine handler with a service dog was involved in the investigative actions.

The man's car was impounded, and all seized physical evidence was sent for forensic examination. In addition, law enforcement interviewed witnesses and bystanders of the incident.

Information about this case has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — cruelty to animals.

It should be noted that cruelty to animals is a serious crime that entails responsibility under Ukrainian law. In this case, the investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement is determining all the circumstances of the event to prevent similar crimes in the future.
