Intelligence reported whether the deployment of DPRK troops in Ukraine would affect the front line.
The commander of the Estonian Ministry of Defense Intelligence Center, Ants Kiviselg, believes that the involvement of DPRK troops in the war in Ukraine will not have a significant impact on the front line. This is reported by ERR.
According to the intelligence commander, the North Korean military likely arrived in Russia in early October and underwent training in the Eastern Military District for 2-4 weeks. Subsequently, they began to be sent to the front in Ukraine, so the first units with DPRK troops are expected soon.
Kiviselg noted that North Korean soldiers are mostly trained for combat in mountainous areas, so the climate and geography of Ukraine are unfamiliar to them. According to him, the deployment of North Korean forces will not affect the front line in the short term. However, if Russia continues their deployment and training, this may have consequences in the long term.
«North Korea promised Russia up to 12,000 troops, including 500 officers and three generals. The arrival of North Korean soldiers at the Ukrainian front is likely to occur in stages», – said Ants Kiviselg.
Recall that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated that up to eight thousand troops from the DPRK were deployed to the Kursk region.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in an interview with the South Korean TV channel KBS that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin involved North Korean military in the war against Ukraine to avoid additional mobilization in Russia. Zelensky added that currently, there are 3,000 North Korean soldiers in Russian preparatory camps, and their number will soon increase to 12,000.
Deployment of North Korean forces at the front in Ukraine
As reported, the UN Security Council convened to discuss the deployment of North Korean troops at the front in Ukraine. Ukrainian representative Sergiy Kyslytsya stated at the UN Security Council meeting that North Korean troops might begin direct involvement in combat against the Ukrainian Armed Forces as early as November.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed Russia's involvement of North Korean troops in the war against Ukraine. According to him, military units from the DPRK are currently deployed in the Kursk region of Russia. The Secretary-General of the Alliance stated this at a briefing.
