Romania is ready to discuss unification with Moldova: what they say in Bucharest and Chisinau.
Discussion of the Unification of Romania and Moldova
According to TSN.ua: Romania is ready to discuss the scenario of unification with Moldova if Chisinau considers it a real possibility. The official position of Romania regarding unification has not changed since March 27, 2018, when the country's parliament adopted a declaration on unification with Moldova without any votes 'against'.
Eugene Tomac, advisor to the President of Romania, expressed the country's readiness to sit down at the negotiating table for a serious discussion of this scenario. He emphasized that discussions on the possibility of unification are only possible if the Republic of Moldova considers it as an option.
The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, also expressed her position on unification with Romania. She stated that she is ready to support the idea of unification, but only if there is a positive outcome in a nationwide referendum. These circumstances indicate that the question of unification remains relevant for both countries, but its implementation depends on the opinion of the people of Moldova.
Historical and Cultural Ties
The situation regarding the unification of Romania and Moldova reflects the long-standing historical, cultural, and political ties between the two countries. Both sides continue to engage in dialogue on this issue, emphasizing the importance of public support in both states. In the face of modern challenges such as geopolitical instability, the question of unification could have a significant impact on regional politics and security.
