Ukraine must have a strong position for negotiations with Russia - Mark Rutte
Secretary General of NATO Mark Rutte expressed the opinion that Ukraine does not have a strong enough position to start negotiations to end the war with Russia. He also stated that any agreement must prevent the Russians from getting what they want.
According to The Hill, Rutte emphasized the importance of reaching a beneficial agreement for Ukraine that could serve as an example for other countries with similar goals regarding Russia.
NATO Secretary General stressed that an agreement between Ukraine and Russia is very important for the world and will attract the attention of Chinese President Xi Jinping. He also emphasized the need to ensure that Ukraine has a strong enough position to start negotiations and engage Russia in them.
'He [Xi Jinping] will be very interested in who comes out as the winner. And if it is the Russians, then this poses a long-term threat, so we must ensure that Ukraine is in a position to start these negotiations, and obviously then we must do this step by step to ensure that Putin joins them,' said Rutte.
