Hunter Biden called Ukraine a den of snakes: what caused the sharp criticism

According to ТСН: Hunter Biden, son of former US President Joe Biden, expressed a sharp opinion about Ukraine, characterizing it as a 'den of snakes' due to the high level of corruption. He shared this in an open interview with American podcaster Sean Ryan.

Hunter admitted that he was 'very naive' about the situation in Ukraine when he agreed to join the board of directors of the gas company Burisma Holdings in 2014. He believes that this decision was a mistake due to the political context.

'I was very, very naive about what a den of snakes Ukraine is. The level of corruption there is something that still absolutely shocks. It was an absolute mistake. Not because I did anything I am ashamed of or that created a conflict of interest for me, but because of the political situation it put all of us in,' he said.

In the conversation, Hunter also criticized the entourage of former President Barack Obama, calling some members 'truly disgusting hypocrites.' He noted that because of them, he had to give up lobbying after his father became Vice President of the US.

'And so I actually started over. I had to rebuild, and I had no savings - I had three girls, all of whom were then attending private school, and you know, I didn't have any money,' he recalled.

Criticism of father's policy

Hunter also expressed disagreement with his father's policy as President of the US, particularly regarding the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan in 2021.

'One of the failures was the way the withdrawal from Afghanistan was carried out. I believe it was an obvious, goddamn failure. Thirteen Marines died… My father always knew: the responsibility ultimately lies with him,' he said.

Additionally, Hunter commented on Joe Biden's policy regarding illegal immigration, stating that the US does not need migrants who cross the border illegally and 'deplete the country's resources.' However, he also condemned the current American government, accusing Donald Trump's administration of profiting during his presidency.

'They are directly profiting from the presidency. I would be surprised if Trump left the White House and the copper pipes were still in the walls,' he stated.

Who is Hunter Biden

Hunter Biden is an American lawyer and businessman, the younger son of the 46th President of the US, Joe Biden. He received a law degree from Georgetown University and Yale Law School, worked in the financial and consulting sectors, and also engaged in lobbying activities. The most attention to Hunter has focused on his work on the board of directors of Burisma Holdings from 2014 to 2019, where he received large rewards without having relevant experience in the energy sector, which became grounds for accusations of potential conflicts of interests.

Moreover, he has publicly spoken about his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction. In 2023-2024, Hunter became embroiled in criminal cases in the US, including failure to pay taxes and illegal possession of firearms, which caused serious political resonance.

It is worth noting that in 2024, Joe Biden pardoned his son, which meant that Hunter would not be convicted for his crimes, thus excluding the chances of his imprisonment.
