Cold Weather in Ukraine from December 24: When Frosts and Snow Will Arrive

According to ТСН: The weather in Ukraine will soon become more winter-like. An anticyclone from Scandinavia will gradually cover a significant part of Europe, causing a decrease in temperature on the territory of Ukraine as well.

Forecaster Ihor Kibalchych reported that meteorological winter has not yet arrived. At the beginning of December, the air temperature in various regions exceeded the climatic norm by 3-5 degrees, and there is no snow cover. However, next week, cold weather will arrive in Ukraine.

Weather Forecast for the Coming Days

According to the forecaster's prediction, starting from December 24, the air temperature in all regions will drop to mild frosts. Weak atmospheric fronts will pass through the western, central, and southwestern regions, where snow may appear before the cold weather.

“The left-bank part of the country will remain under high atmospheric pressure, so here the cold will follow a dry scenario, and frosts will strike the bare ground.”

In the last days of December, a series of cyclones and atmospheric fronts from northern Europe may bring snow to a larger part of the territory.

The forecast for December 21-23 does not predict significant changes in weather conditions. However, starting from December 24, a cold snap associated with an arctic air mass will begin. The temperature will drop by 6-8°C, reaching minimum values at night of -5 to -12°C. Daytime temperatures are also expected to be below zero.

Forecasts for Christmas

Kibalchych notes that the coldest days will be December 25 and 26, as well as the days leading up to the New Year – December 29-31. The gloom that dominated throughout December will gradually disappear, and there will be more sunny days, as the frosty anticyclone will hinder the formation of continuous cloudiness.

The forecaster from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, Natalia Ptukha, provided a weather forecast for Christmas, December 25. A temperature decrease is expected from December 24.

The head of the Cherkasy regional hydrometeorological center, Vitaliy Postryhan, emphasized that Ukrainians will be able to celebrate Christmas on December 25 with winter weather – this has not happened for three years. He predicts a “sharp plunge into arctic cold,” but one should not count on a stable snow cover, as snow will only fall in certain areas.

Thus, with the approach of the Christmas holidays, Ukrainians can hope for genuine winter weather. This may come as a pleasant surprise to many, as holidays in recent years have often occurred under warmer skies. However, for now, one should not expect a stable snow cover – snow will only fall in certain territories.
