Kyiv Records Six Fatalities from Influenza A
According to TSN.ua: Six deaths attributed to Influenza A have been confirmed in Kyiv, one of which was a 10-year-old girl. The child, who lived in the Darnytskyi district of the capital, first fell ill on January 27. According to Serhii Chumak, all six fatalities were caused by the Influenza A virus. This strain is known for its potential severity, particularly in vulnerable populations.
Rising Cases of Flu and Acute Respiratory Infections
Kyiv has seen a 7.4% increase in flu and acute respiratory infection cases over the past week. A total of 11,049 new cases of influenza, acute respiratory infections, and COVID-19 have been registered. The breakdown of these cases is as follows:
- 6,326 cases involve adults;
- 4,723 cases are children, of which 2,453 are school-aged;
Of those infected, 428 patients required hospitalization, including 212 children.
The initial symptoms of Influenza A typically include a sudden high fever of 38–40°C, severe chills, pronounced weakness, headache, dry cough, and sore throat. Given the current surge, it is crucial to recognize these signs early and seek prompt medical attention.
This situation underscores the seriousness of the epidemic in Kyiv and the need for measures to control the virus's spread. Health officials urge the public to adhere to preventive steps like vaccination and avoiding crowded places, especially during this peak period.
