Patient Killed by Drone Strike in Kyiv Clinic as Staff Fails to Evacuate.
Kyiv Clinic Faces Outrage After Deadly Drone Attack
According to TSN.ua: A patient died at the private 'Medikom' clinic in Kyiv's Obolon district after a Russian drone struck the facility on the night of January 5. The incident has sparked a major scandal, with the victim's wife accusing the medical staff of negligence for failing to evacuate patients during an air raid alert. The victim, Dmytro Smashnyi, was among 26 patients in the clinic at the time of the attack. While 25 were evacuated, he was left behind. This tragic event highlights the extreme dangers faced by civilians and critical infrastructure in Ukraine's ongoing war.
The attack on the medical center resulted in one fatality and injured at least four others. The victim's wife, Nataliia Smashna, expressed fury at the staff's actions, stating:
'He entrusted his life to doctors who were supposed to heal him'. Nataliia Smashna
She insisted her husband might have survived with a timely evacuation: 'My husband died, but this might not have happened if he had been woken up and taken to a shelter.'
Another patient, Yurii Radzievskyi, who was in the clinic during the attack, confirmed that none of the patients were warned about the alert:
'No one woke them up, no one warned them about the alarm'. Yurii Radzievskyi
The case has provoked a strong public reaction and raised serious questions about patient safety in medical facilities during military threats.
The Critical Need for Safety Protocols
The tragedy at the 'Medikom' clinic underscores the vital importance of strict adherence to safety protocols in healthcare institutions, especially in a war zone. The situation in Ukraine demands heightened preparedness from doctors and medical staff for emergencies, as patients' lives can depend on their actions. Such failures can lead to severe consequences and public outrage if an adequate level of security is not maintained in medical establishments.
