Crunching your neck can be deadly dangerous: doctors talked about a real case

According to ТСН: The cervical spine is one of the most vulnerable parts of our body. Despite a high level of mobility, the neck consists of fragile vertebrae, and the muscles here are not as strong as in the back, yet they are subjected to significant loads.

Constant 'crunching' of the neck can lead to joint wear, but the greatest danger lies within the spinal column.

Important arteries and veins that supply oxygen to the brain pass through the cervical vertebrae. A sudden jerk of the head

can damage or rupture these vessels.

Mechanical impact can also provoke a herniated disc. This, in turn, may lead to the compression of blood vessels, resulting in oxygen deficiency in the brain. As a result, severe headaches, dizziness, and even speech problems may arise.

There is a risk of vertebral fracture. Minor fractures can be treated by wearing a special corset (Shantz collar) for 6-8 weeks. In more complex cases, surgery and a long rehabilitation period in a rigid cast may be required.

Doctors cite a specific case. One patient was hospitalized after attempting to 'crunch' his neck. After that, he felt numbness in his body and lost the ability to walk.

Examination revealed that the jerk caused a rupture of a vessel in the cervical region, which, in turn, led to a stroke. This underscores that the anatomical structure of the neck is not designed for aggressive manipulations.

How to safely relieve pain

When neck pain occurs, massage is usually recommended. However, doctors warn:

do not allow massage therapists or chiropractors to twist your head abruptly.
Unprofessional actions can cause serious harm.

To ease stiffness and spasms, the muscles need to be made elastic. A safe method is self-massage.

  1. Take a regular tennis ball.

  2. Lie on the floor (or lean against a wall to reduce pressure) so that the ball is located between the shoulder blade and the spine, but not on the spine itself.

  3. Using your body weight, slowly roll the ball up and down.

  4. Repeat the procedure on both sides of the spine.

Previously, specialists also noted, when to stop eating before bed. This directly affects the quality of nightly rest, blood sugar levels, and even weight.

Medical experts emphasize that being cautious with neck manipulations is critically important. Excessive loads or rough actions can lead to serious consequences, so it is important to consult professionals and follow doctors' recommendations.
