Teen dies from raw noodles: a dangerous trend from social media.
According to ТСН: A 13-year-old boy tragically died in Cairo after participating in a dangerous challenge gaining popularity on social media. The teenager from El-Marg district consumed three packets of instant noodles without cooking them.
Local media report that half an hour after consuming the noodles, the boy experienced severe abdominal pain and vomiting. Despite the help provided, his condition rapidly deteriorated, and he died.
Causes of Death
Initially, the version of possible spoilage of the noodles due to improper storage was considered. However, after laboratory tests and an autopsy, doctors found that the primary cause of death was acute intestinal obstruction. Medical professionals believe it was triggered by consuming a large amount of raw noodles, which can swell in the intestines.
Doctor Ruchi Gupta explained that instant noodles are technologically designed for consumption only after boiling. According to her, consuming such products raw, especially in large volumes, puts serious stress on the digestive system and may lead to dangerous complications.
Risky Challenges
Despite medical warnings, the trend of 'eating ramen raw' continues to gain popularity on social media. Experts are sounding the alarm as such challenges normalize risky behavior among teenagers, which can have fatal consequences.
In light of this incident, professionals are also highlighting other threats related to food safety. Previously, at least six people in the U.S. died after consuming prepared pasta dishes after the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes was found in products from Nate’s Fine Foods.
Medical professionals urge parents and teenagers to critically assess viral trends on social media and not to ignore basic food safety rules.
It should be noted that the viral trend of 'chroming' proved fatal for a teenager from the UK. The girl's family urges attention to the dangers that social media hides.
This tragic event clearly demonstrates how dangerous some trendy challenges on the internet can be. Parents and teachers must stay connected with teenagers, discuss the risks and consequences of such experiments with them. Educating awareness and safety in food consumption will help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
