Snow Collapse in Europe: Amsterdam Airport Canceled Over 700 Flights

According to ТСН: Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, one of the largest aviation hubs in Europe, has canceled at least 700 flights due to snowfalls and strong winds that have lasted for several days, causing significant disruptions in air traffic.

According to airport authorities, over a thousand passengers have been forced to spend the night in terminals. Temporary sleeping areas have been set up for them and breakfast has been provided. The number of canceled flights is expected to rise throughout the day.

Weather Conditions in Europe

The bad weather this week has affected transport operations in various regions of Europe. In France, on January 6, five people died due to traffic accidents caused by icy conditions.

The French Minister of Transport reported that on the morning of January 7, around 100 flights were canceled at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, and another approximately 40 at Orly Airport.

Due to hazardous driving conditions in Paris and the surrounding areas, bus services have been suspended, while most metro lines and suburban rail services continue to operate.

The meteorological service Météo France issued warnings of heavy snowfalls and icy conditions in 38 out of 96 departments on mainland France and Corsica. In some regions, a snow cover of 3 to 7 cm has already been recorded.

Forecasters describe this cold wave as 'rare for the season in intensity.' Authorities have urged residents of the Paris region to limit travel and, if possible, to work remotely.

Situation in Europe

Europe is experiencing abnormal weather phenomena: at least six people have died in France and Bosnia due to heavy snowfalls and icy conditions. The icy storm has caused paralysis in air travel: hundreds of flights have been canceled at airports. Road and rail collapse has been complicated by IT system failures in the Netherlands and the suspension of Eurostar services. Meteorologists warn of a worsening situation on January 7, and authorities have declared an orange level of danger in dozens of departments.

According to current data, weather conditions in Europe continue to remain dangerous. Authorities strongly recommend that all residents be cautious and plan their travels taking into account meteorological forecasts. The situation may worsen, so it is important to stay updated and follow the recommendations.
