Scholz: Ukraine will receive a $50 billion loan from frozen Russian assets.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated during a 'citizen dialogue' in the city of Schwerin that Ukraine will receive a $50 billion loan from frozen Russian assets.
He called this a 'very deliberate promise of stability for Ukraine,' which will provide the necessary support in the near future, reports Ukrinform.
'This is also a message to the Russian president that he should not count on the support (for Ukraine – ed.) simply disappearing at some point, and that he will be able to 'swallow' the entire country,' Scholz emphasized.
Regarding the possibility of a phone conversation with Putin, federal government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit noted that the chancellor would do so when appropriate. He recalled that the last such conversation took place in December 2022.
On the eve, Zeit reported that Scholz might consider the possibility of a phone conversation with Putin ahead of the G20 meeting in Brazil in November.
It is worth noting that the 'Group of Seven' countries has decided to provide Ukraine with a $50 billion loan by the end of 2024 from frozen Russian assets. This is an American loan that may be supplemented by European funds or national contributions. The repayment of the loan is planned to come from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets, most of which are located in EU countries.
