Hypersonic 'Dark Eagle' Set for Combat: 2,175 Miles in Under 20 Minutes.
The Dark Eagle System
According to TSN.ua: The United States is preparing to field its new hypersonic missile system, Dark Eagle, which can strike targets up to 3,500 kilometers (roughly 2,175 miles) away in less than 20 minutes. While testing is still ongoing, key specifications and deployment timelines have already been established.
Officially designated the Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW), this system exceeds Mach 5, enabling it to cover vast distances in extremely short timeframes. The first Dark Eagle battery is slated for deployment at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in the U.S. Each battery will consist of four launchers, with each launcher capable of firing two missiles, offering substantial firepower and rapid response capability.
Deployment Plans and Costs
By 2028, the U.S. intends to acquire at least two additional Dark Eagle batteries, signaling a strong commitment to advancing this technology. The development program has cost over $12 billion, underscoring its priority within national security efforts. Each missile is estimated to cost around $41 million.
According to Western analysts citing U.S. Department of Defense data, the missile's flight time is under 20 minutes, making Dark Eagle a highly potent asset in modern military engagements. The system's effectiveness and test results remain a focus of international attention, as hypersonic technologies have the potential to shift the global balance of power.
The deployment of the Dark Eagle system highlights the growing role of hypersonic technology in U.S. military strategy and its intent to maintain a strategic edge over potential adversaries.
This move could reshape global geopolitics, as other technologically advanced nations may accelerate their own hypersonic programs in response to U.S. actions.
