Man Sentenced for Using Forged Child Disability Certificate to Evade Military Service and Claim Benefits.
Verdict from the Zolotonosha District Court
According to TSN.ua: A man has been convicted by the Zolotonosha District Court in Ukraine's Cherkasy region for using a forged medical certificate of his child's disability. His scheme, which began in December 2021, aimed to illegally obtain social benefits and secure a deferment from military mobilization. He submitted the falsified document, Form No. 080/o, to the Zolotonosha Social Protection Office on July 8, 2024.
Court records show the man fraudulently received 31,772 hryvnias in social payments, which were scheduled to continue until April 2025, by using the fake certificate for his child, born in 2013. Following an investigation, the court found him guilty on three counts under the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Sentence and Implications
The court's final sentence imposed a fine of 34,000 hryvnias, equivalent to 2,000 tax-free minimum incomes. The court did not apply any pre-trial restrictions, indicating it considered the risk of him fleeing or influencing witnesses to be minimal.
This ruling underscores the severity of crimes involving social benefit fraud and the importance of upholding the law in Ukraine. Such cases highlight vulnerabilities in welfare systems that can lead to significant state financial losses.
This case illustrates the ongoing challenges of fraud within Ukraine's social benefits system, which can result in substantial financial losses for the state.
