Verdict from the Halytskyi District Court

According to TSN.ua: A resident of Lviv has been convicted by the Halytskyi District Court for fraudulently receiving a disability pension. The man purchased a counterfeit certificate from a Medical and Social Expert Commission (MSEC) and illegally collected pension payments for a year without any legitimate medical grounds. This case highlights ongoing challenges in Ukraine's social welfare system, particularly regarding verification processes.

Court documents reveal the accused bought a forged certificate, series 12 AAV No. 619160, for $1,000. From June 2022 to June 2023, he fraudulently received a total of 25,430.67 hryvnias in pension funds. His actions were classified as fraud under Part 1 of Article 190 of Ukraine's Criminal Code.

Trial Proceedings and Consequences

During the court hearing, the defendant stated:

"I met with my acquaintance and passed $1,000, my medical records, and documents through him to a person who arranged the disability status without any examinations."
Following the verdict, he expressed remorse, saying:
"I sincerely repent."

The court imposed a fine of 34,000 hryvnias on the defendant, reflecting the seriousness of his fraudulent actions and their consequences. The ruling from the Halytskyi District Court underscores the critical need to combat fraud within Ukraine's social benefits system to protect its integrity.

This incident exposes vulnerabilities in the social security framework, specifically concerning the oversight of pension disbursements and the detection of fraudulent schemes. It is crucial for authorities to implement stronger measures to prevent such violations, as they ultimately drain resources from social programs designed for those genuinely in need. The situation also serves as a reminder of the public's responsibility to use social benefits lawfully.
