Court Ruling on Unemployment Assistance

According to TSN.ua: A court in Dnipro has mandated that a man return more than 12,000 hryvnias in unemployment benefits he improperly received while living outside the country. He registered as unemployed in May 2022 but was abroad from July 9 to October 28, 2022—a total of 112 days.

Under current law, unemployment payments must stop if a recipient spends over 30 consecutive days overseas. In this case, the man must repay 12,062.99 hryvnias for the funds he collected without justification. Additionally, the court ordered him to cover 3,028 hryvnias in court fees.

As of 2026, Ukraine’s minimum monthly unemployment benefit stands at 3,900 hryvnias, with a maximum of 8,647 hryvnias. This ruling highlights the need to follow regulations governing social assistance, especially when individuals receive payments they are not entitled to.

Employment Center Response

Employment centers stress the importance of monitoring benefit disbursements, as failing to meet conditions can lead to legal repercussions for recipients. Cases like this serve as a warning to others to avoid violating the laws that govern aid eligibility.

This court decision is a clear example of why it is crucial to adhere to the rules when receiving social support.

It not only holds recipients accountable but also underscores the role of state agencies in overseeing payments. Given the rising number of fraud cases in social benefits, such rulings can help deter future abuse and strengthen trust in Ukraine's social safety net.
