Why neighbors pay different heating bills: an explanation from Kyivteploenergo.
According to ТСН: Different amounts in heating bills can be caused by many factors, such as temperature changes, charges for common household needs, or subscription fees.
This applies not only to houses but also to apartments of the same size within the same entrance.
Representatives of Kyivteploenergo explained why two neighbors with the same apartment area may receive completely different heating bills.
"Billing depends not only on the tariff but also on many other factors," say the specialists of Kyivteploenergo.
Factors influencing the payment amount:
air temperature - in cold periods, the house consumes more heat
readings of the building meter - the actual volume of energy consumed
energy efficiency of the building and the ability to regulate heat supply
availability of building and apartment meters
Why tariffs differ
As explained by the Ministry of Community Development, local authorities have the right to set tariffs for thermal energy, taking into account the expenses of enterprises, the price of gas, electricity, and employee salaries. Therefore, even in neighboring regions, the amounts in bills can differ significantly.
Where heating prices have increased the most
The highest price increases have been recorded in central and northern regions. According to local heating supply companies, in some cities, the cost for 1 Gcal of heat reached 3,500–4,000 UAH.
In particular:
in Chernihiv - about 3900 UAH/Gcal
in Poltava - 3700 UAH/Gcal
in Vinnytsia - up to 3600 UAH/Gcal
In the western part of the country, tariffs are lower. In Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Ternopil, the price varies between 3100–3300 UAH/Gcal. In southern regions, where some houses use alternative energy sources, the average tariff is up to 3000 UAH/Gcal.
It is also worth noting that starting from January 1, 2026, the cost of gas delivery will be recalculated in Ukraine. The cost of gas delivery is calculated for the whole year, taking into account consumption from October 1 to September 30.
These changes in tariffs can significantly affect the budget of Ukrainians, especially in the cold season. It is important to stay informed about new regulations and monitor changes to make optimal decisions regarding the heating of one's home.
