Priest and Blogger Explains Which Generational Distance Permits Cousin Marriage.
A Clergyman’s Take on Marriages Between Relatives
According to TSN.ua: Father Oleksiy Filiuk, a priest and blogger from the Ternopil region, has shared his perspective on marriages between relatives. He stated that unions between second, third, and fourth cousins are not allowed. According to Filiuk, marriage is only permissible after the seventh generation.
The clergyman emphasized that tying the knot before the seventh generation is discouraged because, as he put it,
“we humans are, so to speak, already corrupted”. He added that
“science has proven it, and the church does not bless marriages between people connected by blood ties”. However, the priest assured that 'after the seventh generation—go ahead, get married, wed.'
