Judges gave zero: Tarabarova on the political reasons for Ukraine's failure at the Junior Eurovision

According to ТСН: Singer and producer of the national selection for Junior Eurovision-2025 Svitlana Tarabarova explained why Ukraine did not take first place.

Sofia Nersesyan's performance

This year, Ukraine was represented by young performer Sofia Nersesyan with the song 'Motanka'. Although viewers highly appreciated her performance, the artist took second place due to low scores from professional judges.

Comment from Tarabarova

Svitlana Tarabarova shared in an interview on the show 'Morning in the Big City' that the Ukrainian delegation was upset and disappointed. She believes that the song 'Motanka' is a real hit, deserving of victory. However, Tarabarova noted that 'Eurovision' is not only a talent competition but also has a political aspect.

'The first 15 minutes, my whole team and I were very angry, I even cried, Sofia cried, we all cried. 100 percent – it's politics, both 'Junior Eurovision' and the adult 'Eurovision'. But we wanted to believe. We had and have a super hit. This song was sung by all delegations. Of course, we wanted to win. We were very surprised by the low scores from the jury. Receiving zero points, especially from our neighbors, is very painful.'

France's victory

Let us remind you, this year at 'Junior Eurovision', young French singer Lou Deleuze won with the song 'Ce monde'. However, France recently announced that it refuses to host the contest next year for certain reasons.

Tarabarova's remarks reflect the difficult atmosphere that prevailed in the Ukrainian team after the competition. It is important to note that songs addressing deep cultural themes often encounter political nuances in international competitions. This highlights how crucial it is for participants to have support not only from fans but also from professional experts to succeed on such platforms.
