Hungary Accused of Leaking EU Meeting Details to Russia by Polish PM Tusk.
Allegations of Hungarian Collaboration with Moscow
According to TSN.ua: Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has raised serious concerns about Hungary's potential cooperation with Russia. He specifically suggested that Hungary's Ministry of Foreign Affairs may be passing confidential information about European Union meetings to Russian officials. According to Tusk, such revelations should come as no surprise given the longstanding dynamics at play.
The allegations target Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán directly. Tusk emphasized that this is not a new issue, pointing to a report from The Washington Post which claimed that Hungary has been supplying intelligence to Russia for years.
'The fact that Orbán's people are informing Moscow about every detail of EU Council meetings should not shock anyone,' Tusk stated.
He added, 'I only speak when absolutely necessary, and I say just enough to make the point.' These remarks underscore the gravity of his concerns regarding potential Hungarian-Russian collaboration. This development comes amid heightened tensions between the European Union and Russia, where information leaks could undermine collective security efforts.
Worsening Ties Between Poland and Hungary
Tusk's statements may signal a further deterioration in relations between Poland and Hungary, especially against the backdrop of EU-Russia tensions. Hungary's cooperation with Moscow could have serious implications for EU security and policy, as it weakens the bloc's unified stance toward Russia. With the growing threat from Russia, such accusations risk deepening divisions within European political circles, potentially straining alliances at a critical time.
