A Russian drone killed volunteer Vyacheslav Ilchenko during an evacuation in Donetsk region.
According to ТСН: In Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region, volunteer Vyacheslav Ilchenko tragically died during the Christmas celebrations as a result of an attack by a Russian FPV drone, which struck an evacuation vehicle.
This information was confirmed by the charity fund 'East SOS'. At the moment of the strike, Vyacheslav was leaving with colleagues to pick up people.
Injuries and Consequences
Vyacheslav Ilchenko, the founder of the 'Unbreakable' fund, sustained critical injuries that proved to be incompatible with life. Two of his colleagues were taken to the hospital with moderate shrapnel wounds.
Volunteer Activities
The head of the 'Coordination Humanitarian Center' organization Yevhen Kolyada stated in a comment that Ilchenko was actively engaged in evacuating people from various regions, including Kharkiv and Donetsk regions.
‘He had been working with us since 2022. The fund was involved in evacuating civilians in the Kupiansk and Vovchansk directions. Now he was also taking people out of Kupianshchyna, but received a request for the Kostiantynivka direction and went there,’ said Yevhen Kolyada.
Vyacheslav Ilchenko left behind a wife and two daughters.
Earlier in Kostiantynivka, a family with two children riding a bicycle came under fire from a Russian FPV drone.
This tragedy highlights the danger that volunteers face on the front lines of humanitarian assistance. Often, while saving others, they risk their own lives, suffering attacks from the enemy. The loss of Vyacheslav Ilchenko is a great loss not only for his family but also for all who knew and valued his work for the good of people in this difficult time.
